Eligibility Criteria for the ADB-JSP Scholarship at the Asian Institute of Technology:

  • A candidate must be a national of a country that is currently borrowing from the ADB; individuals from countries that have ceased borrowing from the ADB are ineligible for the ADB-JSP Scholarship.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, with an exceptional academic record.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time professional experience (obtained after obtaining a post-university degree) is required at the time of application.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English communication skills to facilitate academic endeavors.
  • Applicants must be no older than 35 years at the time of application. The age limit is set at 45 years in exceptional circumstances for programs that are appropriate for senior officials and administrators.

  • Upon completion of their studies under the Program, they must provide their consent to return to their native country.
  • The Scholarship is not available to Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, ADB management and staff, consultants, and their relatives.
  • The Scholarship is not available to personnel employed by AIT.
  • The scholarships are not available to applicants who are employed or reside in a country other than their native country.
  • ADB-JSP is unable to accommodate applicants who are presently enrolled in graduate degree programs.
  • ADB-JSP does not offer sponsorship for undergraduate education, distance learning programs, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, or research projects.

Criteria for Selection:

  • Priority is given to the classification or order of merit proposed by AIT.
  • Applicants who have less than two years of professional experience will be disqualified from the selection process.
  • Female candidates will be prioritized.
  • Candidates with diminished financial resources will be prioritized. Family income must not exceed USD 50,000 annually, and individual income must not exceed USD 25,000 annually.
  • Applicants who have previously pursued studies abroad will not be endorsed by the Program in general.
  • In general, the Program will not provide endorsements to applicants who are pursuing a second Master’s degree.
  • It is possible that candidates who submit to a Designated Institute (DI) in their home country will not be selected.
  • The diversification of nationality at each DI level and within the overall Program will be considered.
  • The Program encourages research that is consistent with the core components of ADB’s Strategy 2020, which emphasizes poverty alleviation through the development of infrastructure, environmental sustainability, regional collaboration and integration, financial sector advancement, and education. ADB’s strategic orientation for its operations in 2020 is defined by Strategy 2020.
